Description:
Medium sized bird, black to ashy grey, long tail deeply forked, outer rectrices slightly flaring outwards. Adult has dark grey underparts and slate-grey upperparts with blue-grey gloss; iris bright red. First-winter has brownish-grey underparts with indistinct pale fringes (underparts blacker and whitish fringes more distinct in Black).
Distribution:
Possible summer visitor to the south-western border areas of Diamer, Astore and Ghizer. Essentially a forest bird, mainly in mountain areas, preferring more open forest; occurs in mixed pine and oak, breeds at up to 2500m.
Behavior:
Often seen perched high on open branch at edge of forest; sallies from treetop perch to take flying insects close to ground or on tree trunks and in canopy foliage. Principally insectivorous; some small vertebrates also taken. Consumer of nectar, among the most regular visitors at blossoms.
